Waters & Drinks

Date:  October 31, 2006

Key Points:

1. Key is getting adequate amount of water daily to keep your body hydrated.

2. Bottled water is not necessarily better than tap water. The main difference is that you can often taste a hint of chemicals added to purify tap therefore, many prefer the taste of bottled water.

3. Most bottled waters do not have fluoride added to them like tap water, but fluoridated bottled waters are now available. Read the label.

4. Avoid flavored bottled waters and other drinks such as bottled Teas and Energy Drinks high in sugar and calories. Read the label. If they have calories and high sugar content, read the ingredients to determine if you are really getting a thirst quencher or sugary sweet treat.

5.Juice drinks vary in the amount of sugar they contain. Read the label and select 100% Juice versus Juice Drinks that that have high fructose corn syrup and other forms of added sugar and often contain only 10% juice.

6. There are a variety of Diet Bottled Drinks that are a better choice to give you the flavor and satisfaction without all of the added sugar.
