Key Points:
The New Year is the
most motivating time to attempt the 2 healthiest lifestyle New
Year's Resolutions;
1. Quit Smoking
2. Lose Weight with Exercise and Healthier Eating
The keys to
successfully accomplishing them are;
1. MUST PUT RESOLUTION IN WRITING.
2. Select a diary system such as a yearly calendar
agenda book or set up a section within your preferred planner
system to set up and track your plan
on accomplishing your resolution.
3. Now MAKE YOUR PLAN. It is great to have intensions
to change your lifestyle, but are you truly committed to
doing it? If you are, you must begin
by planning how you will accomplish your goal. Are you capable of
doing it
on your own or are you incorporating
outside support. If your goal is to quit smoking, you may want to
discuss
with your physician types of aides
that are available. If your goal is weight loss and a healthier
lifestyle, you must
decide how you are going to
incorporate physical activity/exercise and healthier eating. Are you
joining a health
club, utilizing a registered licensed
dietitian - make sure the resources you contact are well
credentialed and
experienced in their respective
fields of expertise.
4. Do not try to do too many things at once as you most
likely will not succeed. Do not go from one extreme to
another. Weight loss for example:
Plan week 1 to eliminate sugar and white flour, week 2 add
elimination of
fried foods, week 3 eliminate butter,
whole milk, and cream. This is why your planner agenda is key: you
are
going to write your goals for each
week, then write each day how successful you are at adhering to your
plan.
5. Plan what your physical
activity/exercise will be and schedule it in your day. Weekdays may
require different
exercise times versus weekends, but
make sure it is SCHEDULED, just like you schedule appointments you
cannot
miss. If you are a morning person, do
it first thing. If not, plan it before dinner. Schedule it, complete
it, and
mark your dairy/agenda DONE.
Nothing in life
worthwhile comes easily, but the results are SO REWARDING. Happy New
Year!
