Fasing Into Fitness - Week 1

Date:  January 2nd, 2006

Key Points:

Fasing Into Fitness, developed by Mary DeMaiolo of The Fitnesst, is a gradual, simple, step-by-step program that adds 1 little healthier dietary change and increases exercise activity each week so people can gradually work on achieving their goals in a do-able format that is not overwhelming. This program also allows for a free afternoon/evening each week so people can  have a little of the bad stuff, but stick to the higher quality nutritional food choices the majority of the week. Baby steps are key to making true changes for life.

WEEK 1:  Eliminate Sugar, Drink 1-2, 8 ounce glasses of water each day, and walk 10-15 minutes, 3 days per week. (recommended walking every other day)

Well known sugar foods include cookies, cakes, candy, pastries, muffins, most baked goods, table sugar in coffee/tea, and sweetened cereals, but watch those hidden sugars in sodas, fruit drinks, fruit flavored yogurt - only eat the lights, canned syrupy fruit, sugar coated dried fruits and yogurt coated fruits and nuts, and dairy should have no more than 15 grams of sugar per serving and other foods 3 grams per serving.

Nothing replaces the hydration of pure H2O, Water. Drink 16 ounces per day this week. You can drink 4 - 4 ounce glasses, or 2 - 8 ounce glasses, or whatever works, but get those 16 ounces in.

We must move to lose and/or stay fit. If you are into a walking or fitness program, continue accordingly; if not, let's begin walking 10-15 minutes, 3 times per week. You can do this outside or even standing in place in front of your favorite TV show.
