Week 5 - Desserts

Date:  April 3, 2007

  1. Do not leave yourself open to wanting a heavy dessert by not being full and satisfied. Remember to eat larger portions of salad and vegetables to satisfy your appetite.

  2. Then you can enjoy a SMALL serving of a healthier sweet.

  3. Fresh fruit including berries are always a nice ending to a meal.  If a bit tart, sprinkle a little Splenda on them and can also add some skim milk.

  4. An ounce of dark chocolate is also a good choice, full of antioxidants and quite satisfying.

  5. Sorbet is a lighter option than ice cream, mainly fruit and sugar.  We try to avoid sugar, but this is a lifestyle and a little sugar in moderation here is ok.

  6. If it is a cake type celebration, try to avoid the icing as it is usually full of hydrogenated fat and sugar.  Enjoy a small piece of cake and just a dab of the icing.

  7. Do not forget to ask for skim milk for your coffee instead of the cream served or creamers most often put on the table.
