June and
July are the two most popular months for Graduation Parties and
Weddings featuring an abundance of delicious food that is not
always the lowest in fat and calories. The following Fitnesst Food
Finesse tips assist you in enjoying the party food without overdoing
it:
1.
NEVER SKIP BREAKFAST. Too often people think not eating all day and
then indulging at a party is a good strategy in reducing calories.
Not true. We need that healthy breakfast to get the metabolism
started for the day; and a good metabolism helps the body to not
store excess fat for energy.
2. Do not go
more than 4 hours without fueling the body with another small meal.
A good metabolism needs 3 oz. lean protein, a fibrous carbohydrate,
and a little fat every 4 hours so if the party is later in the day,
don't skip lunch either. You can keep it light, but don't go
without.
3. If you know
the party food is probably not going to be heart healthy, have a
small meal or large snack before you go. This will allow you to
enjoy the party menu without being so starved that you over eat far
too many fats and calories.
4. Look over
what is being served and eat more of the healthier choices if
doable. Try to avoid fried things, rich sauces, and lots of
dessert. Focus more on the salads, vegetables, broiled/baked
entrees, and fruits if available. Take smaller portions of the less
healthy foods so you have the pleasure of enjoying them without
overdoing.
5. Watch
sugary high calorie drinks. Remember, a can of regular soda pop has
almost 11 teaspoons of sugar.
6. Have fun,
enjoy, and keep it in perspective. A little bit of rich food can be
very satisfying when balanced with some healthier choices.
