Summer
cookouts can be healthy and delicious. Try these healthier lowfat
alternatives and enjoy!
-
Use the leanest
ground beef available to reduce artery clogging higher fat
burgers. 4 oz. of ground meat varies as follows: 95% Lean has
155 calories & 6 grams of fat; 80% Lean 288 calories & 22.7
grams of fat. Big difference, especially if you eat 2 burgers.
-
Extra lean
ground turkey makes a great 4 oz. burger too with 1 gram of fat
and 130 calories. Extra lean are the key words to look for to
keep the fat and calories down.
-
There are
healthier Hot Dog options too. Look for Fat Free, Lite, or
Lean Turkey that average 40 to 70 calories per serving and 2.5
grams of fat or less versus an average 2 oz. hot dog at 180
calories and 16 grams of fat.
-
Lite lowfat
cheese makes a healthier cheese burger. Try the soy and
vegetable options to that come in a variety of flavors like
cheddar and American.
-
Put them on a
whole wheat or whole grain bun and enjoy. Use 1/2 of a bun if
watching your weight.
-
Dress them with
mustard, ketchup, relish, onion, and tomato and you won't
believe how good they are. Happy Cookouts!
