"FIT at FIVE"

Meal Planning is KEY

Date:  September 4, 2007

The kids are back in school, summer is winding down, and after school activities can make for a hectic late afternoon/evening.  This is the perfect time to plan meals.  The weekends allow time for the weekly meal plan, grocery shopping, and preparation of foods that can be made and/or frozen for easy quick meals during the week.  This eliminates the last minute "what do I do so I'll just grab whatever" which is usually  high fat unhealthy fast food and sweets.  The Graphics:

  1. Schedule time to plan your meals around the known school and work schedules that are already set.

  2. Make a grocery list in conjunction with your meals planned including healthy snacks.

  3. Schedule your grocery shopping time, and stick to the foods on the list.

  4. Meals mean breakfast, lunch, and dinner-prepare for all 3.

  5. If you do include fast food 1 evening or pizza, make healthier choices-grilled chicken or veggie burgers, turkey sandwiches, plain non buttered buns, baked potatoes, thin pizza crusts, light cheese, and sugar free drinks.

  6. Planning and being prepared are key to healthy living.  You would not get in the car and just go-so why leave your meals to chance-your most important energy source.
